Is marriage worth it?

I live in a 1940 California stucco bungalow.  It's very temperamental and the central air conditioning only covers the main part of the house.  It doesn't include the long rock walled room at the back and the small paneled bedroom.  I have a through the wall AC for that.  My stepfather's cats live in those two rooms since Jim is in a nursing home.

Today the temp reached 120 and the AC failed.  The two rooms were roasting.  I can't let the cats into the main part of the house because they don't get along with Ankah.   So I opened the kitchen door to that part of the house and put a fan to share the central AC with the cats.   It cooled off very quickly.  My husband went ballistic.  He was shrieking how I was going to break HIS central air conditioning (the house belongs to my family and we have it rent free).  He was throwing paper off his desk and then manhandled the new AC we bought for the back room.  I told him to stop before we have to buy another AC because he broke the new one.  He was ranting and raving and calling me names.  All because I opened a door and cooled off a room for a couple of elderly cats.

I'm still crying.  My pension pays for the electricity,   I have enough in savings to pay for repairing or even a new central air conditioner.  He spends his social security on anything he wants and I don't care.

Why do I put up with the abuse?  I now have a headache from crying.
